Rut Busting for Writers at Medina County Library

Join us for a fun, high-energy, rut-busting writing event where you’ll be invited to create, perform, or simply cheer others on! Whether you're a seasoned writer or just starting out, let go of overthinking and dive into spontaneous storytelling with us!

Register Here!

Here’s how it works:

  • At the start of each round, we will draw a random prompt for our Big Jar of Prompts.

  • You’ll get 5 minutes to create–whether it’s traditional storytelling, poems, songs, spoken word. We invite you to channel whatever creative form feels right to you!

  • After time is called, each participant will perform their piece for the whole audience.

  • Then democracy takes over! Writers and listeners alike cast votes to determine winners!

There are two ways to win prizes at Story Wars:

  • Overall Winner: Votes are accumulated over all three rounds to determine an overall winner and a runner up.

  • Superlative Winner: Each round features a unique superlative, such as “Coming in Hot!” for best opening, to be given to the writer that best tackled the challenge!

Story Wars is an inclusive space where spontaneity meets creativity. A chance to break through self-doubt and second-guessing. It’s fast. It’s fun. And it’s for everyone. So whether you're telling your tale, cheering on a friend, or just enjoying the creative magic, come be part of a growing community of curious, courageous, and creative humans.
